It’s amazing what today’s web and mobile apps can do. Often they’re just as powerful as a program running from your computer. You don’t need to download them, and they’re usually ad-supported and free. The needs of business professionals are quite diverse. Here is a list of business apps that almost any business professional can find useful.

Rescue Time
Here’s a scary question: how much of your work time are you actually working? It’s all too hard to resist checking your favorite sites and social media accounts here and there. There’s the issue of multitasking — if you’re constantly switching activities, you’re not going to be able to concentrate. And in the aggregate, the time you waste might be substantial. So if you’re looking to go after some low-hanging fruit for productivity gains, start tracking your unproductive time with RescueTime.

There’s a feature called FocusTime, which blocks distracting websites when you need to concentrate. This is for when you really need to crank out that TPS report and can’t stop browsing TMZ news. You can set daily limits on apps and sites. The reports always have interesting findings.

Best of all, there’s a free version.

Blinkist
As a professional, it’s important to be constantly expanding your knowledge. But keeping up with the media is like drinking from a firehose. It’s simply hard to find time to read a book, much less than the dozens that come out each year. Blinkist is designed to help with that problem.

Blinkist has book summaries for all the popular books. Each listen is 5 to 15 minutes long. There is an enormous selection. The number of topics is massive.

Canva
Canva is like photoshop but free and easy-to-use. You can use it for social media, documents, web designs, infographics, and posters. It has templates, and everything is customizable. This is a great alternative to an Adobe subscription, which is pricey.

Google hangouts
Google Hangouts is a great option for communicating. Not only is it free, but there is a video chat option. All you need is a Gmail account. It’s very easy to use as well.

There are plenty of great apps for business professionals. The four we listed here are our favorites because of how useful they are.
